The story of the week is Hansel and Gretel. I chose this story for two reasons. One my grandson Jackson is devouring fairytales faster than his mother and father can keep up with the demand and I promised to use my storytime slot to tell lots of fairy/folk tales. Two, there is not a story more pessimistic about the adult world’s ability and willingness to provide a good home for children, nor is there a story more optimistic about children’s ability to survive the abandonment,violence and captivations of the adult world, and indeed to triumph. The future remains unwritten because it is the children who will write it. I am still not satisfied with how the story ends. I will keep working on it. More on Hansel and Gretel later. For now enjoy!
