This blog website is about childhood, nature, culture, spirituality, teaching, learning, work and play. My perspective looks out on how children learn and grow, and how we as caretakers, teachers and grown folks can support them in this ongoing process of growth and liberation. We are dedicated to the proposition that we are all in this together. Let’s make the most of each day and learn how to play, work, and live together.

How can we support each other in the process of creating beloved communities that respect the dignity of all children and all people? We are courageous, utopian pragmatists  that do not shy away from the pain, suffering and violence that suffuses our interconnected world. An essential dimension of this work is to critically and effectively deconstruct the structures and practices of oppression, exploitation and dehumanization that terrorize our world. In this way we can create collective strategies to challenge the warped social formations that reproduce social inequality, degrade the earth and rob children of their birthrights: food, shelter, care, education, and every opportunity to discover the true joy and pleasure of living.

Ultimately, we must find deep wells of healing and act to affirm our fundamental goodness, wholeness, and openness to the world. Instead of greed, generosity. Instead of hate, love. Instead of delusion, understanding and insight.

Children demonstrate to me everyday that we truly live in the midst of a garden of earthly delights. Let’s open our hearts and figure out everyday how we can deepen our connections with the earth and each other. Let’s plant the seeds of a new, sustainable play culture that meets the needs of all children.  Let’s show them everything we can be without robbing from them their birthright to find their own way in the world and on this good earth.
