"The mitten swelled and stretched . It was pulled and buulged to many times its size. But Baba's good knitting held fast."

The Mitten, written by Jan Brett, read by Charlie Malone

Jan Brett is a beloved children’s author who has written many classic Christmas stories, retellings of fairytales, and original stories drawn from her own delightful imagination. The Mitten is a story drawn from Ukranian folklore. Brett had several versions of the story translated into English by a friend, and then went to the Ukranian museum in New York City to find out more about Ukranian culture. A distinctive feature of her style, apart from the fact that she illustrates her own stories , is that she uses the borders of her books to draw miniature pictures that elaborate on and add to the main story. You can get a nice introduction to her work in this appreciation from the Bookwyrm’s Hoard website https://bookwyrmshoard.com/treasured-illustrators/a-celebration-of-jan-brett/
