The Earth on Turtle’s Back

I have the day off today because it is  “Christopher Columbus Day.” I would prefer, like many other people, that we as a society rename this holiday, Indigenous Peoples Day. The story I have chosen to share today is the “Earth on Turtle’s Back.” This version of the story is from the Onondaga People from the Northeast Woodlands of what we today call the United States of America. It is one of many powerful creation stories collected in Caduto and Bruhac’s “Keepers of the Earth: Native American Stories and Environmental Activities for Children.” Enjoy!
