The story of the week is The Woman Who Outshone the Sun, adapted from a poem by Alejandro Cruz Martinez, a Zapotec poet who collected many folktales from the Zapotec Indians of Oaxaca Mexico. He was killed in 1987 while organizing the Zapotecs to regain their lost water rights. That he was killed in the struggle to restore water rights to an indigenous people of the Americas underscores the central theme of the story: restoring, reconstructing, and reinventing happy, healthy, harmonious relationships with the water, the earth, the air, the sun, the plants, the trees, the animals and each other.
